My 7yo joined Cub Scouts this year. Besides selling the obligatory Cub Scout popcorn, my son also gets to participate in the annual cake bake.

The rules for the cake bake are pretty simple. First and foremost, NO HELP FROM MOM. Second, everything on the cake has to be edible. If you can’t consume it, you can’t use it.

My son and I came up with this idea for a Pinewood Derby track with a couple of race cars on it. Whadya think?

Cub Scouts Cake Bake 2008

The entire ramp is made of cake and frosting. The race track itself is graham crackers. The cars are made of Twinkies and Oreo cookies with fruit roll-up number cut-outs on top. The flags on the side are mini pretzel sticks and fruit roll-ups. And finally the finish line is two large pretzel rods with another fruit roll-up.

I know, I know. I won’t be quitting my day job.

EDIT: My son and I are better at this than we thought. We won first place for our cake for the “Best Cub Scout Theme” category!
